Charleston Place Bas-Relief Panels

Custom bas-relief panels created for The Charleston Place Spa, bringing a refined, sculptural element to this luxury hospitality space in Charleston, SC. Designed as a site-specific art installation, these large-scale panels transform original illustrated artwork into dimensional works of art through a combination of traditional craftsmanship and modern fabrication techniques.

Beginning with hand-drawn illustrations, each design was translated into a hand-sculpted model before being digitally refined through 3D scanning and CNC milling. The resulting forms underwent an extensive hand-finishing process, including sculpting, sanding, and surface refinement, before being built up with fiberglass and aqua resin. Layered gel coats and custom finishing techniques completed the panels, creating a timeless, tactile surface with depth and dimension.

Measuring approximately 8′ × 11′ each, these custom fabricated bas-relief panels were designed to enhance the guest experience, adding a unique artistic feature that complements the space’s atmosphere of relaxation and luxury.
